hello,
so i got an ss5 clone (something called an axil 245). i can power it up and it comes to a screen asking me for the root password. i dont have it. no one remembers it either.
this thing does not have a cd. only a floppy. it have an ethernet port in the back. but i cannot log in to do anything.
so what do i do to get gentoo on here ? basically:
- how the heck do i reformat this machine using a floppy, so i can get into it and do some sort of "net booting" ?
- can i make a sparc boot floppy on a pc or do i have to make it on a sparc ? _________________ "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? From what your saying, I think you're looking for a way of stopping the default boot sequence so that you can manually boot from another source. You'll be wanting to get to the OBP 'ok' prompt, then you'll be able to follow the instructions in jhujhiti's link.
After you turn it on, and before it starts booting up (into solaris I assume), press Stop-A, then issue the appropriate boot command for your required media,
eg. boot net |
