|
|
I've tried to "chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash"
and always received the error message
chroot: cannot execute /bin/bash: No such file or directory
But /bin/bash is existing under /mnt/gentoo/bin/bash and also under /bin/bash. I've an Athlon AMD processor and running gentoo 1.4 rc1
live cd.
What could be the error ? Does anybody know or experienced the same problem ? |

did you mount the partition? did you unpack the stage 1 tar ball? did you follow the installation manual exactly? probably not... :) _________________ A mathematician is a machine for turning coffee into theorems. ~ Alfred Renyi (*1921 - †1970) |

well, lets put it in this way, 100% of chroot problems appeared here on the forums during installation process, were the result of not following the installation manual. anyway, as this would not help you, try this:
Code: | ls -la /mnt/gentoo/bin/bash |
if it results in "/bin/ls: /mnt/gentoo/bin/bash: No such file or directory" you didnt follow the installation manual exactly. probably you've made a typo somewhere ... double check that ... _________________ A mathematician is a machine for turning coffee into theorems. ~ Alfred Renyi (*1921 - †1970) |

Hmm, it seems, that this "100%" is 100% right.
I've checked my file system and I my error was to try to install
gentoo on a vfat partition - but installation instructions said otherwise.
This has caused untar to not properly create the
symlinks for the libraries. After having copied them from a runnig system
it worked. Then I've retried it with an ext2 partition and followed
installation instructions 100% and then -
as soon as I've made it correct it has worked !
Thank you for your energy - it has helped me to see where I did wrong

Did you use the right tarball? I had the same problem. After using the stage 1 tarball the problem was solved for me. I'm now going to stage 2 (trying to). |
