Hello, I have been trying to get DRI up and going on my AthlonXP with a VooDoo5500 card going, and I think I have narroed down my problem, but can't get closer to the solution:
When I run glxgears -info I get:

Code:

libGL: XF86DRIGetClientDriverName: 1.0.0 tdfx (screen 0)
libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/tdfx_dri.so
libGL error: dlopen failed: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/tdfx_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/tdfx_dri.so
libGL error: dlopen failed: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/tdfx_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
GL_RENDERER   = Mesa GLX Indirect
GL_VERSION    = 1.2 Mesa 3.4.2
GL_VENDOR     = VA Linux Systems, Inc.
GL_EXTENSIONS = GL_ARB_multitexture GL_EXT_abgr GL_EXT_blend_color GL_EXT_blend_minmax GL_EXT_blend_subtract
321 frames in 5.0 seconds = 64.200 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.000 FPS

So, the question is, what happened to tdfx_dri.so?
In my /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri directory I have:
Code:

gamma_dri.so  i830_dri.so  r128_dri.so    sis_dri.so
i810_dri.so   mga_dri.so   radeon_dri.so

Do I need to recompile something? Anything? (God, I hope its'not the whole XFree!) can I just get that pesnickety file from somewhere? Any ideas appreciated.

Maybe you didn't compile the voodoo drivers in your kernel.
At http://dri.sourceforge.net/ you can find a lot of info about this subject

This is what i do to have dri support with my 3dfx card:

Dri module for 3dfx compiled in the kernel

USE ="... 3dfx ..." is one of the modifiers
Code:

emerge xfree
emerge glide-v3
emerge xfree

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I did compile the tdfx drivers into my kernel, but no, when I compiled Xfree and glide I did not have any use flags, so the USE=' ...3dfx..." should do the trick.

However, whilst searching through the Gentoo forums, I saw that some use ther use flags such as USE '...voodoo3..." With that in mind, I wondered if there are any others that would do anything worthwile with the VooDoo 5500 card. To that end, as welkl as for people to provide nay other 5500 info and advice, I started a topic on the Desktop forum:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=15920

Thanks to both of you for your reples, and if you wish to contribute anything further, please do so---there seems to be a bit of a paucity of information about this card---perhaps because this card was tfdx's swann song.

You don't need to put any flag about your Voodoo 5500. If you look in /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc (this file explain all the flags you can use) you will see something like this:

voodoo3 - Adds support for 3Dfx's Voodoo3 video chipset, else defaults to Voodoo4/5 support if not in USE.

When emerging glide-v3 it uses -m486. Is there any particular reason for that? Why does it not use my -march=athlon instead?
