Ok, I got one of those Sbus cards that has both ethernet and scsi ports on it for my sparcserver 5. I can't seem to get it to work with my kernel- it's version 2.4.23-r1. I tried loading all the network drivers to no avail- the computer just doesn't seem to recognize it. It has a "100-3722" chip on it, which I'm assuming might help identify it. Where do I go from here to get it working?
ps. I do have an onboard lance network adapter that works just fine.
pps- yeah, I know, i should have looked for drivers before getting the network card.. my bad.
thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer! |

If its a 50-pin SCSI contact then it'll be Lance (10Mbps). If its a 68-pin fast-wide then it'll be Happy Meal (10/100Mbps).
The Sun part no. probably begins with 501- often its on a sticker on the SBus connector. |

It actually has a 40 pin scsi connector. It is a Sun 501-2655 HME fast ethernet 1.0 SBUS card X1056A and requires the BigMAC kernel driver. I just had to recompile the kernel with that driver in it, and it was good to go. |

Hey, wow, I've never seen one of those before. There's no SCSI on that card at all - the 40 pin port is actually a MII connector for an external transceiver.
And yeah, you need a Big Mac driver to go with your Happy Meal (Happy Meal being Sun's internal nickname for the HME)
Glad you got things working.
