The emerge fails and i end up with this :

--------------------------- ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY ---------------------------LOG FILE = "/tmp/sandbox-openoffice-bin-1.0.1-4332.log"

open_wr: /dev/dri/card0
open_wr: /dev/dri/card1

open_wr: /dev/dri/card11
open_wr: /dev/dri/card12
open_wr: /dev/dri/card13

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have read some threads and checked that i have the /dev/dri/card0 entry in dev. Before the
installation /dev/dri/card0 exist... but after the installation has failed it is gone :(

Anyone have any Idea ?

I emerged openoffice 1.0.1 (source) yesterday and it feels lot better than the binary installation. Really faster & uses freetype for anti-aliased text. If u' re using gentoo 1.4 & have a speedy box, I suggest you should try it. However it took 5 hours on my athlon xp 1800+ to compile :)

I used to have openoffice 1.0.0 on my gentoo 1.3 install.

But when i upgraded to gcc 3.2 (gentoo 1.4) openoffice would not work, so i unmerged it.

Today i emerged 1.0.1 (using gcc 3.2). It compiled correct. but as soon as i type 1 space in writer, it crashes.

i even creayed a new user, and tried open office for the new user.. but that did not seem to help, same error.

Anyone got some tips for me?

i emerged 1.0.1 and everything worked great....until i tried to use it.

I tried openoffice setup from the menu...that gave me a window of all silver. closed it and the message box had 2 buttons with no wording on them.

Then i just decided to try the word processor. Started that up and all the list boxes were empty and about 1/8th the size they should be tall.

Let me know if anyone else has seen this. Like I said, it compiled fine....just doesnt work.

Mine also took forever to compile on a 1.5GHz P4 with 512MB ram. But it seems that everything takes longer on 1.4 than it did on 1.2 with all the same CFLAGS and such (CFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer")

Later

Ok i solved it myself.
Somehow during upgrading my system to gentoo 1.4 my java settings seem to have been nuked :p
So after a 'java-config --set-system-vm=blackdown-1.3.1", openoffice was playing nice again.

i also have the problem with open office not showing the text for the menu bars and them being shrunken...i have no idea what it is, at first i thought it might be a font problem...but i am yet to see what it could be.

I am taking extreme measure.

I am rebuilding a 1.2 system because it worked there. Then I am going to try and upgrade to 1.4_rc1 or what ever is there when I get done building. I know it will take a while due to the fact that KDE, openoffice, evolution and all the other 'necessities' will take a while to emerge.

but....I will have one clean system.

Last time i buildt openoffice I swear it did not need gcc-3.0.4 or later....guess my rebuilf of 1.2 was for naught

Is that all? I remember trying to compile 1.0 w/gcc 3.0.4 (I think) and it taking 12 hours and it still failing, causing me to go to the binary :) That's less than half the time.

How long did the bootstrap and the rest of the install take for you? I have an XP 1700+ so my times should be similar, when I install 1.4 (waiting for the final ver. to come out).

Had the same problem !

This is due to a Font Path problem. I had to remove /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/ and then everything worked !

There is also a FAQ from openoffice explaining the problem

I has been about five days, has anyone come up with another way to fix this problem other than the Type1 fix?

Thanks

I just got my machine back in shape and started to emerge openoffice before I came to work. Will see what happens when I try and run it tonight.

woot! it appears that at least on my system Speedo also causes this problem. I have to comment out these two lines in my XF86Config-4 file:

#FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/"
#FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/"

giving me a "Files" Section looking like this:

Code:

Section "Files"
   RgbPath      "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb"
   ModulePath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules"
   FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/"
   FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/"
   FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/"
   FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/PEX/"
   FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/"
   FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic/"
   FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/"
   FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/"
   #FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/"
   #FontPath     "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/"
EndSection

seems to work well now though...yay! :) I hope this helps other people with same problem.

OOO won't compile with Java 1.4.0 for me - they OOO guys have at some point defined a method called assert - but since 1.4.0 assert is a keyword for java, thus making the build process fail.

Is this a freetype problem or an OOO problem? All of these fonts worked in the previous release of OOO but not now and OOO-1.0 would not work either when I reemerged that. I have these commented out:

Code:

# These fontpaths exist but OpenOffice (freetype) cannot handle them.

#    FontPath   "/usr/share/ghostscript/fonts"
#    FontPath   "/usr/share/fonts/monotype/TrueType"
#    FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/"
#    FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/"
#    FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/"
