Hello,

I have just come across a Sun GDM-1962B monitor. It has a DB13W3 connector in the back and as I understand it is a fixed frequency monitor. I have searched the net best I can but I still have a few questions:

- What is the best way to get this monitor to work very well with a PC ? Will this approach show the BIOS bootup ?
- Does it matter if Linux or XP is used as the operating system ? Which would be preferred when dealing with this monitor ?
- If I have a good video card and get a "sync converter adapter" will it do the job ?
- What is a recommended video card ?
- What video card out there now can generate a "composite sync signal" ?
- If I have a video card than can generate a "composite sync signal" do I still need a "sync converter adapter" ?

Basically I am just looking for help. I am confused and I just want to figure out possible options to get this monitor to work with my PC. Has anyone successfully hooked up a fixed frequency monitor to their PC ?

I have found the following item on Ebay. Will it suffice ?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3469891298&category=3668

Please help me!

I have an GDM-20, and Suns own 13W to VGA and it works fine.
I see bootup and everything.
The oldie works like a charm in both Windows and Linux, and that Ebay adapter looks alot like the on I have.

I wish I had a GDM-20. From what I have read they are more compatible with a PC than GDM-1962.

Do you have any experience with a GDM-1962 to a PC ?

Hi,

You might try looking at PC-Cables.com. I got a cennector from them. I have a Sun GDM-D20 and with the adapter with prescribed capacitor it works fine. Here are some posts I made in the past about this: What sparcs are people running?

There is some information here as well.

Good luck

You can get adapters on eBay for about $15/US. Just do a search for "sun monitor adapter". I'm not sure how well they work as I've only gone PC monitor to Sun DB13W3.
