Hey there,

I ran into a bit of a problem... I have Gentoo running on my latptop across the entire disk and the swap space is calculated accordingly... now this never posed a problem, emerging X, KDE, XFCE4 etc. But now I really need to emerge uae, and it segfaults during the CPU emulation compilation. There's a not there in the ebuild process that I should really have a half gig of swap+ram available for that process, well I don't....

Any way to temporarliy increase the swap, like with a filesystem mounted inside of another one, or something like that?

Any help appreciated, I'm at dead end here.

Maybe this link here helps you a bit furter. Instead of creating a partition swap file you can create a swap file into a file.

Have a look here for the commands and further explanation.

You could check your CFLAGS and remove "-pipe"

Quote:

-pipe
Use pipes rather than temporary files for communication between the various stages of compilation. This fails to work on some systems where the assembler is unable to read from a pipe; but the GNU assembler has no trouble.

Using temp files reduces the memory footprint. Could be enough to get the compile done.

Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/swapfile bs=1024k count=<MB you want>
mkswap /tmp/swapfile
swapon /tmp/swapfile
