Hi,
I want to use an old 486 only to burn cd. I need only
a minimal installation, ssh, cdrecord, nfs.
The kernel may come from the server (using grub).
Do you think I can use my 160M IDE hard disc for this
installation ?

keeping in mind that a whole linux system fits on _one_ floppy disk, id rather assume that 160M should be enuff _________________ void main(){fork();main();} |

hmmmm, ok, but I think they are not exactly the same
tools installed: no compiler and so on.

160 Meg must be more than enough.
Just remember: compiling takes up large amounts of temporary diskspace !
On a 486 is worth considering doing the actual compilation on another PC (transfer the harddiskdisk). |

To fit an entire Gentoo system on 160MB, I would think you would have to do the compiling on another machine. I would be surprised if you could bootstrap GCC with 160MB of disk space total. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

ave you emptied the /var/tmp/portage directory on your system?
if not try and do that, it would probably free up some space |
