I successfully Installed Gentoo using the stage3 tar ball. After I get everything setup I reboot to the hard drive for the first time and after the kernal loads I get no response from the keyboard at the login prompt.

The things I tried include editing and minimizing the startup scripts such as local.start and rc.conf. I also thought that It could be my keybaoard map but I set it to us and checked for that a map exists for that setting.

Everything works fine when I boot off a CD or to Windows. Running out of ideas---
Thanks.

Try comparing your kernel's .config file with the one used to generate the 1.2 install CD.

There are some differences between my config file and the one fromthe link. One thing that stikes me is the PNP support. I forgot to enable that one in my kernal. Would it be possible for that to affect the keyboard. I have my BIOS set to NO PNP OS so that it intiallizes all the hardware.

The keyboard also works through the boot loader.

I have a MS Natural PS/2 Keyboard. Also tried a different MS keyboard with the same results.

PNP doesn't seem like a likely suspect. How about CONFIG_VT and/or CONFIG_VT_CONSOLE?

Are you using a USB keyboard? If so, make sure you've compiled USB device support in. That got me the first time I set up Gentoo on a system with a USB keyboard and mouse.
