|
|
I just got a message pop up today saying there are new updates for panther... being 58megs in 1 file. I updated this and once rebooted panther no longer boots. From what i can tell once i have selected MacOSX from yaboot it doesnt load osx ie the round progress meter with the bars no longer apears. and it turns off.
Its been working perfectly untill I applied this update that just came out today |

I have also problem after I tried to apply this update (it stopped as the disk ran out of space). I can still start Panther, but only a few applications. It seems that something messed up the HFS+ filesystem, as the Disk Helper App from CD tells errors every time. It seems I have to reinstall Panther on my system...
But that Mac OS X overwrites your boot-sector is an old and know issue. We had that several times before. You have to start from CD and reinstall yaboot _________________ hacking is not a crime |

i have a stranger problem. my yaboot disappeared completely... when i boot i no longer get any boot options at all. it just goes straight into panther (incidentally, panther is working with no problems). i'll get hold of the 2004 cd and try reinstally yaboot and take it from there.
i was told that i might have to reset my open firmware. anyone have any ideas out there?

I don't know if this is related, but I installed OS 10.2 in a partition, then OS 10.3 in a different partition. Then I put Gentoo in the 3rd partition. I created the bootstrap partition and reordered my partitions to make it 2. Then when I ran mkofboot it said everything worked fine. However, when I boot the system it never brings me to that menu, it just boots OS X (whichever one was selected with startup disk). It works fine if I boot off the CD and specify the parameters myself. _________________ Life is too short and too important to { take seriously | use Windows }. |

choong to reset PRAM I held down (all four together) Code: | COMMAND OPTION P R
i.e alt_key apple_symbol_key P R |
whilst in OS X and a reboot (restart) is in progress). I think you will hear a chime.
Perhaps do the above procedure 3 times in a row, That is you keep holding the above keys together until you hear 3 chimes in a row ( I got this info from some other thread).
For me yaboot also dissappeared for another problem but came back after the second COMMAND OPTION P R.
I'm not sure if it will work for you but it did on that occassion for me.
Also another thing I think whilst you reboot you can hold down the OPTION (alt_key) key and that should present you with which OS to boot into i.e linux/OS X/ other perhaps that you have. |
