I was bored last night so I blew away RedHat 7.2 and put Gentoo 1.1a over it. Everything went OK (using the stage 2, I can't get bootstrapping to work right in stage 1, diff prob.).

Anyway, now that I am up and have things going, you can immagine I want things that RedHat had, like vim. Problem is (and this isn't the only package I got this on), when I try to emerge it, I get this error at the end:

!!! ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully
!!! Function src_compile, Line 8, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

!!! emerge aborting on /usr/portage/dev-util/cscope/cscope-15.3.ebuild .

I assume cscope is a dependancy.... and actually, when I try to emerge on it's own, it fails the same way.

What is wrong and how can I fix it? I am anxious to see what this distro can do, and it was a lot more to install than RedHat, so I love it already, but I want vim! I hate pico/nano!

Thanks in advance

What error messages occur just before the one you mention?

Have you tried:

Quote:
emerge --clean rsync

to get a fresh copy of your portage tree?

Maybe remerge portage itself?
