Any idea how I can find out exactly which dependencies are masked that a program needs? Usually it'll tell me, but this time it's being extremely generic...
# emerge -p opera
These are the packages that I would merge, in order.
Calculating dependencies
emerge: all ebuilds that could satisfy "opera" have been masked.

opera is completely masked in favor of opera-static. See /usr/portage/profiles/packages.mask: Code: | # Opera 6 final.
# This package requires that qt2 package were linked against libpng 1.0.12,
# while the latest libpng version is 1.2. Since I could not figure out how
# to specify this witihout making qt-2 dependent on =libpng-1.0.12*, this
# ebuild is masked out. Please use opera-static instead, which does not
# require libpng or qt installed.
