I finished a semi successful install of Gentoo from stage1 *applause*. I am a certified n00b. *oh... even more applause* The only problem is that my ethernet card doesn't work. It seems the module 8139too didn't install at all, and I couldn't get the compile for the binary that I finally downloaded on my windows box, moved to floppy, and then managed to mount the floppy... copied and it wouldn't compile... I am installing again incase I missed something in the make menuconfig, but I would like any suggestions to make sure I don't miss it... as if I have to do this again, I might impale myself on my keyboard. _________________ Jonny5

Whoa there... Don't impale yourself just yet
You don't need to start again completely from scratch... Just recompile all the modules from the kernel source.
Go to /usr/src/linux and type "make menuconfig".
Select the card as a module this time, and leave everything else as it is.
Exit, save changes to kernel config.
Type "make modules modules_install" in the /usr/src/linux dir.
And voila! The module should now be in the /lib/modules/<kernel version> dir, ready to be loaded with insmod. |
