I've been trying to install Gentoo (AMD64) onto my KV8 for quite some time. The problem is that the Multi-Platform IDE driver doesn't seem to like either the VT8237's SATA RAID controller or the Samsung SP1614C hard drive. Essentially I keep getting "lot interrupt" messages on any attempt to access the drive connected to the SATA RAID controller.
Right now, I'm interested in finding out if anyone succesfully installed Gentoo on an Abit KV8-MAX3 using the VT8237's SATA controller... I'll get into trying to troubleshoot and correct the problem afterward. |

i have same problems when SATA-drives are connected, with 'SATA-RAID disabled' or no SATA-drives attached works fine. |

Wish I had known this ahead of time. I would've bought a PATA drive instead. But I guess if I want to run Linux I have no choice.
Thanks keno.
BTW, your post implies that if the controller is enbaled after installing Gentoo that you have problems. Is that in fact the case? |

I have the same issue using 2004.0 and now with 2004.1.
smp kernel did not have the problem, so I used that for my install. I initially assumed that would be a problem but the stage1 install went fine with my hard drive recognized as hde. When I built my kernel I first tried a 2.6.5-gentoo-r1-up but it had the same problem. So I made a 2.6.5-gentoo-r1-smp. That worked fine; but I was not able to get X to start ... some kind of problem with the nvidia driver (5200FX chipset). I read somewhere that there were problems with smp kernel's and the nvidia drivers but of course I couldn't boot into a up kernel. Then I tried the on-board sata raid controller. That works with a up kernel and my boot drive is now sda. But the nvidia drivers still will not initialize even though modprobe -v nvidia seems to happily load the module. Here is the tail end of Xorg.0.log in case anyone has any ideas.

I have a production AMD64 system with a 4-Drive SATA array working properly (using the HPT RocketRaid 1640, ugh). The install kernel worked just fine, but every one of the kernels that I made would being giving me DMA errors after 5 minutes to 5 days...
But, after several hours of searching, i added:
Code: | acpi=off pci=biosirq |
to my kernel (gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5-r1) boot command line and now it has been up for 12 days with no issues. (:^) _________________ In the end, the love you get is equal to the love you make
