Before I submit this as a bug, I'm looking for some feedback from other sparc runners.
On a sparc classic, fdisk cannot convert a DOS labeled disk to a sun labeled disk. I re-emerged the latest util-linux without resolving the problem. Pulling out my splack distro, and grabbing its fdisk allowed me to convert the disklabel successfully. This is probably the second time I've had this problem (and this is a different drive), so it seems to be real, but I am puzzled as to why no one has noticed (because they never change the disk table??).
PS. be sure to reboot to avoid being faked out. _________________ Being a Gentoo user means living in a house inhabited by a family of crazed carpenters. When you wake up, the house is different. The correct way to do this is to dd nuke the disc header and start from scratch. |

Since when?
I've been rewriting disklabels for years. Perhaps you overlooked the part where I state that the SPLACK version of sparc fdisk works perfectly. Seems like a bug then. _________________ Being a Gentoo user means living in a house inhabited by a family of crazed carpenters. When you wake up, the house is different. Sometimes directly changing disclabel works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes starting a car in fourth gear works, sometimes it doesn't. |

Think about it. This is FDISK, a program designed to handle EVERYTHING about partitions and disklabels (i.e. a metapartition). If fdisk fails to correctly zero the disklabel, it is a bug.
Your comment is meaningless, only this gentoo fdisk is broken, the rest of the world seems to be fine. Perhaps you'd like you add your comments to the Gentoo Install manual (if your pov is "correct").
Cars start in neutral nowdays too.....or is this an example of what your sig refers to?? _________________ Being a Gentoo user means living in a house inhabited by a family of crazed carpenters.
