I've got an odd problem with my new install on an Ultra1E/200 with a Creator card. After I got it going (with USE=ultra1 for the HME lockup patch), I get errors from modprobe spat on /dev/vc/1 and in dmesg about devices in /dev (???)
For example, starting gpm:
Code: |
/etc/init.d/gpm start
modprobe: Can't locate module /dev/gpmctl
modprobe: Can't locate module /dev/gpmctl
|
(yes, it is repeated twice)
But gpm works fine. I'm thinking something like devfs is messed up but... no idea.
Starting X gives a multitude of those modprobe errors (many for /dev/fb0-31), but X runs fine and looks sweet on the Creator card.
If it matters, I'm using fresh binary packages for most things including X because the last time I compiled X and mozilla-1.6 on my previous U1-170 was painful (several days). However I did compile gpm from source, it's small enough that it only took a couple minutes and I was wondering if the package was to blame, guess not.
Any clue?
sparc-sources 2.4.24-r2 with seperate /boot and root on a software RAID-0, tried with and without devfs automount on boot, if it matters.

Well that problem's gone, everything works perfectly now
I switched to development-sources 2.6.4 and everything now works perfectly.
If anyone else has this problem, try a 2.6 kernel... |
