|
|
Why hello again,
Some might remember me from such posts as devfsd prob.
Since I recompiled the kernel and rebooted I noticed the message that loaded during boot state that nvidia module not loading. I quickly verified that the /etc/X11/XF86Config file was correct. issued the command:
#echo NVdriver >> /etc/modules.autoload
rebooted....
same prob.
so i
#emerged -u media-video/nvidia-glx
#echo NVdriver >> /etc/modules.autoload
#reboot
Now i noticed it displays that the driver failed three times(?)
Oh the kernel I recompiled was -r7
could there be a problem with that?
Any suggestions before i tackle this when i get home would be great. If I am still having troubles i will be in lynx trying to get more info/give info....

refer to:http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86_40/1.0-3123/README
i believe it is NVIDIA_GLX, so add it to the /etc/modules.autoload
let me know if you suceed |

Hey maor,
Thats a good point and will be the first thing I check. Also after that is done then i would need to do a
#echo >> NVdriver /etc/modules.autload
Just getting my procedure down. _________________ ___________________________________

maor's excellent advice is only needed for versions of the nvidia-kernel ebuild up to and including nvidia-kernel-1.0.2960.ebuild. In nvidia-kernel-1.0.2960-r1.ebuild and later, the NVdriver module survives a kernel recompilation. See this thread for details. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

My experience is that after recompiling the kernel you need to do "emerge nvidia-kernel". However I have seen in the changelog of nvidia-kernel that even this shouldn't be neccesary anymore. Haven't tried it myself though (didn't recompile after 17-08-2002).
No need to do "#echo >> NVdriver /etc/modules.autload" because it's allready in there. This way it gets added again and again.
Also no need to unmerge nvidia-kernel first.
