Frst of all, I would turn off console blanking if you don't want to sit waiting for the compilation to finish If your machine freezes, then you are able to see what the last output before the actual freeze
Then I would turn on al debugging options in portage (emerge) and see what happens just before your system freezes. Maybe it will give you some clues.
Code: | emerge --debug --verbose dvdrip |
Make sure your system is not being overclocked or something
If you see any errors, feel free to post them here.
Good luck |

I am having problems with dvdrip too. I need to get gtk-perl to build the gdk-pixbuf module. But It won't or I can't get it to. dvdrip emerged just fine but I cant run it. Anyone know how to get gtk-perl to build the gdk pixbuf .pm module??? |

You have to set the USE flag "gnome" before emerging gtk-perl (gdk-pixbuf must be installed before).
But this means that you are forced to install a lot of gnome stuff also |

when you start up drip, it executes a script /usr/bin/dripgetdvd.sh. This looks in /etc/fstab for your dvd-drive.
Just create /dev/dvd through modification of your /dev/devfsd.conf and add a line in /etc/fstab for mounting /dev/dvd. This did the trick for me. |
