I'm back from my holidays again...
and it's great to see that development is still going on at a high pace.
I have some things to say/ask:
I haven't heard anything from the cvs acces thing... but I don't think it's a real problem if scaba and salmo do have acces. (do you?) I'm going to have a look at the xfce themes I made in the beginning of Lila and update where it's needed I had put an archived version of our wiki from google's cache on the wiki that rezza set up http://rezza.uni.cc/lilawiki, but that one seems to be gone now...
Rezza do you know about this? Do we have another wiki? We have no wiki anymore but I remembered some icons still had to be made, how can we solve this? How is the mail list on the dedicated Lila server going?
That's about it... |

Of course, themes are a matter of taste: I would simply prefer buttons that aren't simply thin outlines. My wm theme of choice:

i didn't consider your comment rude or something.
suggestions are always welcome. thanks. maybe i can gimp/code something up.
andrewski wrote: | Any help with my own theming question above? |
i only stumbled once over that large 'g' you mentioned above.
VelourFog wrote: | Sorry. Tarball with Lila theme 0.5, nautilus 2.6.0 and librsvg 2.6.4. |
have you tried lila-gnome-0.5.1? you might also want to upgrade to the latest versions of librsvg and libxml2.
Jefklak wrote: | I can't get the damn icons in rox to work...
What did I miss, how to install them?
BTW, the instructions for ROX-filer are also missing on the lila theme home site |
there are instructions for lila-gnome further up on the previous page. just change it to any lila-<package>.
and yeah, documentation is in a very bad shape currently.
9-speed wrote: | I'm back from my holidays again... |
glad you're back. i already feared we lost you.
about the cvs thingy: i'm supposed to have access, but it doesn't actually work. must be doing something wrong... what about you salmo?
concerning the wiki: i didn't know we had it back temporarily, but if it's definitely gone now we should just start a new one.
[edit] i just got cvs working. salmo, if you haven't figured out yet do
Code: | export CVS_RSH=ssh
export CVSROOT=:ext:salmo@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs
cvs -z3 co svg-icons |
it's the instructions from fd.o minus the 'projectname' on the CVSROOT line. [/edit] _________________ Out of silence, a story. Out of chaos, order. Out of nothingness, love...

Rezza do you know about this? Do we have another wiki? |
Yeah I know about it... it happened when my last host went (for want of a better word) tits-up. The new host is much bigger and faster with more bandwidth, but its harder to set stuff up on... I'll get on trying to set up a wiki for us to use.
On another note, how did the chat on Saturday go? Were any decisions made? Any changes etc? I'd love to have a chat with people to see what direction we want the site to go in. There was talk about merging the completed themes and the ebuilds pages, thats certainly a possibility, and anything else anyone wants could be accommodated too within reason. I'm still trying to figure out a way of getting directory listings to work on the server at the moment, anyone know what has to go in the directory's .htaccess file to be able to list contents?
Anyway, I'm happy to take suggestions for the website, as I don't think its as useful as it could be. I've been away with only intermittent net access for a while, but now I should be able to put some work in on the site if need be.
Ideas and suggestions, folks, come on and not just the active contributers either, I want ideas from all the noobs and people who just wanna leech the theme as well. _________________ screenshots

OK, so we need to clean up and update the instructions.
This box hasn't got any lila stuff on it yet so I'll go and follow all the instructions and see if I can see where they need changing. _________________ screenshots

I upgraded librsvg, libxml2 and nautilus to the latest, but it didn't help. I get "500 internal server error" when I try to download the latest theme here:

yeah sorry about the 500 there, that was my fault as I was trying to sort out the directory listings (which incidentally should work fine now).
Try again. _________________ screenshots

@9-speed
concerning cvs access you should contact dgt84.

which lila packages have you tried?

was kind of a failure
people should just generally hang about #svg-icons more often.

my updated thoughts concerning the website...
- add a news section, like there's one on 'love-sources.org'
- add the howto i'm currently working on (general installation) and updated/completed 'instructions' (application specific setup) in a 'documentation' section
- link the new wiki directly by either 'todo' or 'wiki' on the navigation panel
- update the 'screenshots' section with newer and pure lila shoots
- have a 'download' section or something with ebuilds, tarballs, snapshots and scripts all in one place
- set up a support/general discussion/... forum on the website

we already had this problem some pages back. try upgrading to the latest librsvg/libxml2. if this doesn't help, try moving the following icons out of /usr/share/icons/Lila/scalable/
- apps/keyboard.svg
- devices/gnome-dev-keyboard.svg
lila-gnome-blue is quite old and doesn't contain lots of the icons lila-gnome does, including the above mentioned. _________________ Out of silence, a story. Out of chaos, order. Out of nothingness, love...

Okay, I am now running the latest Lila theme but there's still the issue with the makefile. So, I dug a bit deeper. I fired up inkscape to look at the makefile mimetype icon, "gnome-mime-text-x-makefile.svg" and it looked okay, at least what meets the eye.
Then I replaced this icon in the ~/.icons/Lila/scalable/mimetypes folder with an icon from the Gartoon theme. And guess what, Nautilus doesn't crash anymore. This is weird. I'd like to help fix this if I can, because Lila is a great theme! _________________ She's built like a steak house, but she handles like a bistro! You win again, gravity! |

the 'gnome-mime-text-x-c.svg' icon for one is apart from "c" writing exactly the same as 'gnome-mime-text-x-makefile.svg'. so i just removed that text. it should work if the makefile icon is the only one that causes trouble.
try this one and report back please.
[edit] @ all gaim users and anyone else who knows:
how to name the lila replacement for the 'send im' icon in gaim? the one on the front panel. i tried gaim-send-im, gaim-button-send-im, gaim-dialog-send-im, gaim-menu-send-im, gaim-sendim, gaim-button-sendim, gaim-dialog-sendim, gaim-menu-sendim. none worked. any other ideas? thanks. Neato, it works now!
There must be some kind of "bug" in the old icon, then? _________________ She's built like a steak house, but she handles like a bistro! You win again, gravity! |

OK the site has been slightly updated... more being worked on as time permits. There should be a lila forum up soon.
Oh, also, If anyone has any idea about setting up a wiki manually then please get in touch with me via email (dougwhiteley \at/ gmail \dot/ com ), AIM (rezza314), MSN messenger (doug@bits.bris.ac.uk) or jabber (rezza@jabber.skynet.be). You can see what I have up so far at http://lila-theme.uni.cc/wiki/ . It looks like its kinda working, but it spews PHP errors all over the place. _________________ screenshots

You can laugh now and again and again i had the ftp server on a p166 w/32mb ram he he worked fine though i also had samba installed on it and for being so slow linux really does do wonders on a slow machine. _________________ ftp://lila-project.ath.cx |

Well I seem to be spamming this topic with website updates... lol.
Anyway, there are forums over at the lila center now, and they might be a cleaner way of discussing things. Shoot on over and sign up people. It should lessen the horrors of thread page search we have to go through to dig information out of this topic _________________ screenshots

Great work rezza!!
If we're going to use the new board, I think it's a good idea to lock up this forum thread with the last post saying we moved over. Otherwise we still have to keep watching this board while using the other... |

Nice job setting up the forum. I agree with the idea of locking up this thread and migrating over to the lila-center forums, where we can have multiple topics, threads, etc.
Sorry I've been sporadic lately, they're working on the cable in my neighborhood so my connection is up and down (mostly down, grrrrr.), and I've generally been too busy working during the day to do anything before 6:00pm my time. After tomorrow, I should have a bit more free time. |

|
I'm having trouble in Xfce with the Lila icons, as they are SVG-based. The current "stable" version of librsvg is 2.6.5, which is 4 months old; the current version is 2.8.0. So I get a crashing panel everytime I try to run SVG icons in Xfce because of an outdated package. Apparently, the package will only be updated with Gnome 2.8.
Has anyone else experienced this? How did you resolve it? |

I'm using gensplash on my system, but lila doesn't like that; it wants me to have bootsplash instead. Is there any way to update the dependencies to reflect the Gentoo shift towards gensplash and away from bootsplash? |

there is a guide to using bootsplash themes with splashutils look it up in the documentation and tips thread.
you just have to move the theme from /etc/bootsplash/<themename> to /etc/splash then move the files from config into the top level theme name
theme
-bootsplash-1024x768.cfg
-config
--bootsplash-1024x768.cfg
-images
--bootsplash-1024x768.jpg
--silent-1024x768.jpg
then delete the config folder and rename the *.cfg files to 1024x768.cfg from bootsplash-1024x768.cfg _________________ ftp://lila-project.ath.cx |

Thanks, but I was referring to the ebuilds requiring a dependency on bootsplash. Instead, it should, as far as I can tell, require a dependency on that or on gensplash.
As for making them with splashutils, I've got that. |

librsvg 2.8.1 is in portage, you just have to unmask it.

I think it would be better to have two separate ebuilds. One for bootsplash and one for gensplash. I'll have a look...
By the way, I'd prefer if you signed up at the Lila forums. Thanks.
