I can use iftop as root with no problems, but if I want to use it as user I get the message:
Quote: | pcap_open_live(eth0): socket: Operation not permitted |
Can anyone tell me how to solve it? |

It probably wants to use promiscous mode so that's why regular user can't use it. Maybe the easiest way to grant access to it for regular user is to emerge sudo and use it. sudo lets you give root permissions to selected files for the selected users.
But please remember that sudo may well contain security holes, so use it with extreme care. _________________ Yes, I'm the man. Now it's your turn to decide if I meant "Yes, I'm the male." or "Yes, I am the Unix Manual Page.". |

I think, I will get used to use it with su -c, I only need it on occasion. I thought it may be "configuration" issue. Anyway thanks for reply. |
