Ive seen people write about how M$ duplicated the gui of macos with win9x but I can honestly I dont see how they have done it and what the have copied. OK, win3.1/progman.exe looks more like macos but again, I dont see the similaritis between bacos and win9x. Would anyone care to give me a clue :?:

Although it IS true that MS stole the idea of the GUI from Mac, it wasn't for win 9x, it was for Windows version 1, then MS developed its "own" style from then on. I had Windows 2 on an 8086 when I was little, which looked a lot like the Mac UI.

Well besides Apple licencing a bunch of code to M$ on how to do a GUI, I don't think they ripped off the mac too much. Win is silly interface, mac is ok interface, aqua looks pretty, command line is functional.

who 'stole' it from xerox who 'stole' it from the magazine which 'stole' it from the fucking word (sticks, etc).

It's so stupid to say they stole the idea of the gui. Of course you want to make the damn thing purty and try to get around the limitations of the CLI. (open porn in lynx and you'll se what i mean). I went and looked at some windows 1 screenshots and thet look nothing like mac os (i'm only familiar w/ 8+ never was a mac person) except they dont have the cli. PS, can someone drop me a screenshot of OS 1 or something? old-skool wibndows looked awfuler than i would have expected.

Here you find a nice GUI gallery:

http://toastytech.com/guis/index.html

It features lots of old screenshots like Windows 1.x, Apple Lisa and the like...

Imagine yourself using MS Windows 1.x or 2.x on today's systems. I'm talking strictly GUI. Now you can come close to knowing how I feel using Win9x and derivitaves.

Cool..I wasted too much time reading that.

Sadly, i think i would have liked oldskool windows better than oldskool mac.
of course for the time i think X was hard to beat. twm is kinda hard to configure, but it does what it does about as well as flux.

Yeah, neandethaler "Gromby" stole the idea of a 'wheel' from neanderthaler "Ruffy", then Volkswagen stole it from Ruffy .. and now, years later, even the americans have wheels ... although you can't tell from the fuel consumption of their cars...
