My Linux box runs through the same kvm switch that I also have a Win98 box connected to. Cables to the kvm switch are identical. The Win98 box has an AGP NVIDIA Riva TNT2 card, 32MB. Linux box lacks AGP on the board, so I installed a PCI-based NVIDIA TNT2 32MB card. I can check hsync and refresh rate via the monitor control panel. At 1280x1024x24, I have identical hsync and refresh from both cards.
The problem is that the Win98 box display is reasonably crisp and clear, while the Linux box display running Gnome is amazingly blurry, similar to the look when the convergence is screwed up on the monitor. (Btw, the NVIDIA splash panel *is* crisp looking, which really makes we wonder wtf is going on.)
I have read some things about antialiasing being a culprit, but does this apply to the gui widgets as well as the fonts? *Everything* is uniformly blurry.
Any hint of what possible sources of this problem could be? (Tia) _________________ ----
