|
|
hello, I made it to step 14 on the Install documentation page (Final steps: kernel and system logger) without any problems. I emerged xfs-sources ('cause I'm using xfs on my main drive) and went to configure the kernel for compilation. I chose all my options and go do the make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules_install. (I must warn you, this is pretty much the first time I've ever tried compiling a kernel).
It compiles (throwing up gobs of "warning ... redefined" for just about every line) for a little bit then make finally quits saying:
make[2]: *** [ksyms.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [first_rule] Error 2
make: *** [_dir_kernel] Error 2
I don't have an oddball system...(pentium 200mhz, 64meg ram, matrox vid, sb16 sound, 3com network card, cdrom, ide hdd) it's considerably slower than most are probably running.
Anybody have this before? Did I pick something wrong in the menuconfig? Any thoughts?
thanks in advance ! |

The same happened to me with Gentoo 1.0rc6 (kernel 2.4.17) untill I enabled the "Symmetric multi-processing support" (even if I've got a single cpu machine), because the number of cpu wasn't defined. With kernel 2.4.19 it seems to work without any problem even without it. |
