I am trying to build Gentoo on a Sparc 20 box but am having a hell pf a time. I have downloaded and burned the live CD and have booted the box on it. I have configured the network and can ping other computers on my internal network as well as my gateway/ firewall. I can ping the name server on the internet but that is all. I have tried to access other sites but get an error "Alert!: Unable to connect to the remote host." What the hell am I doing wrong here? I want to download the the first stage so I can build the box from scratch but not being able to get on the internet makes it a bit hard.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

hi,
did you configure a default route? Is the NS really outside? Can you ping other outside hosts? does your firewall let port 80 through? can you "telnet wwwserver 80"?
My guesses are:
no default route
firewall blocks port 80

try a ping www.cisco.com. If it works, it must be a proxy or firewall thing. If it doesn't, look at your NS and gefault gateway _________________ Khammi

My PC, as well as 8 other PCs and Macs, have no problems getting through to the internet. If I have an IP address on the internet then it will return a ping but using lynx is out for some unknown reason.
Still at a loss,

Rebooted the box and then resetup the network interface and it just worked, no problem. Damm, I banged my head against that for about a half an hour late last night.
Thanks for the help guys.
