The "-bin" version is a compiled version. If you don't have the right compiler version or enough disk space (> 2GB?) for the build, you may want to install the binary version.

Not to mention compiling openoffice takes several hours... I gave up trying to compile it and used -bin around 4 hours in on a 1.6GHz P4.

I didn't take great care about it, but I should have :cry: .
Indeed, it takes really, really long to compile, especially when you've got to start it twice, because there is no space left on the partition where the PORTAGE_TMPDIR default location is. :oops:

I've got a P4 1.6 GHz and after more than 6 hours, the compilation is not over...
