Hey, I am having an interesting problem that I cannot seem to fix. Any
ideas?
When I run "emerge alsa-driver" it says this:
...
Unpacking source...
Unpacking alsa-driver blah blah blah...
Source unpacked.
*
I just puts the '*' there and hangs. It is not using any processor so I
do not think it is running anymore. Before this attempt I did get an
error refering to a modversions.h file missing in the path of the kernel
source tree. Other than this one problem Gentoo has been great so far. _________________ Aaron Meyer | "The search for truth is more

Code: |
rm /tmp/sandboxpids.tmp
|
may fix it. |

Thanks, that did fix it, but now I
get yet another error. It is as follows:
/usr/src/linux/include/linux/timex.h:78: #error You Lose
Very descriptive. _________________ Aaron Meyer | "The search for truth is more

OK. The first error with the red "*" is due to portage borkage. This will be fixed by emerging to 2.0.34. You will then see a nice error that says:
Quote: |
*
* Could not determine your kernel version.
* Make sure that you have /usr/src/linux symlink.
* And that said kernel has been configured.
* You can also simply run the following command
* in the kernel referenced by /usr/src/linux:
* make include/linux/version.h
*
|
So, it looks like your symlink in /usr/src/linux is broken or the kernel config is not there (possibly due to a 'make mrproper'?) |

Ok, I did do a make mrproper so I redid my kernel and installed it. That got rid of the second error, but now it is back to the first error:
/usr/src/linux/include/linux/module.h:21: linux/modversions.h:no such file or directory.
I think I know the solution to this. I did nto install the module loader into my kernel because I didn'thave any modules, do I need to turn that on?
Thanks for all the help. _________________ Aaron Meyer | "The search for truth is more

Yes. modversions.h will be generated only if you turn on loadable module support AND module versions. |
