Now I have the most intresting install probably ever known to human kind.
Toshiba Satellite 115CS laptop.
40 megs of RAM (that's it! Can't go any further!)
800 meg HD.
One PCMCIA NIC, supported by Kernel 2.4.18.
Here's my idea: I mount the ISO onto /alt/gentoo, mount the rescue disk to /alt/gentoo.rescue, point the NFS server to server them, and compile up a special kernel that has those drivers. Have it boot with an NFS-mounted root being the rescue disk, so it's not kept in a ramdisk.
Opinions? I need to know Gentoo's kernel config, though, before I take on this deed for science. |

Not so. I installed Gentoo onto a Pentium 133 with 24 MB of RAM. Check out this thread.
If you need more details, let me know, we can arrange something. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

Recommended was 64, and they said it would build slowly.
Turns out that they generate a 40 meg Ramdisk for the rescue disk. Building slowly I don't mind, but having it NFS mounted instead of on the Ramdisk may build it faster (restricting IO to the network). |
