That's pretty damn impressive.
I've never been one of those who uses gentoo "'cause compiling from source makes the binaries faster!!eleventy-one!!" or whatever, but that does give me a certain sense of satisfaction...
Although it would be really helpful to know what the setup on the gentoo and other boxes were (Linux Gentoo 2.6.20.7 doesn't tell us much, we don't even kmow what arch this was on...).
Take that ha1f, you smelly bsdtard! _________________ "You have to invite me in" |

as the other OS in the test are not explicit 64 bit i'd expect them to use x86 for Gentoo also; at least the page does list Win XP instead of XP Pro64. On the other hand the boxes have quad cpus and 16GB so 64bit would fit better; but looking on their test-zone db-size this shouldn't matter too much. _________________ Nothing is secure / Security is always a trade-off with usability / Do not assume anything / Trust no-one, nothing / Paranoia is your friend / Think for yourself |

Neat! The Gentoo statistic is laughable compared to Windows 2003 server.
What I would like to see is how other Linux distro's stack up. |

Um.. Isn't FreeBSD-6-stable and FreeBSD-6.2 the same thing? I thought FreeBSD 6 went stable with 6.2?

FreeBSD 7.0 hasn't been officially released yet.. It's still an RC..
But.. this was almost 5 months ago.. Who knows what the benchmarks are now.. |

This is something id like to see more of. It's been awhile since there have been any real benchmarks of the different distros. with the bigger and better hardware rolling around i think that few % increase that Gentoo gives is getting bigger i think. _________________ “Music is a moral law. A long time ago I tested a Linux distribution (I think it was Mandrake) against FreeBSD for mathematical computations and the Linux was about twice faster than FreeBSD! Here we see almost the same |
