nothing crazy, just my laptop 2.8ghzP4 256mb ddr (was going to put 512 in but i never use swap anyways so whats the point) damn inspiron5100s overheat way too easy and the fan is super noisy, but for a laptop they can scream for a pretty good price

Dual 2.0 Ghz Athlon MP
1 GB Registered RAM
3ware 8506-8
8x250 Western Digital WD2500JD (Serial ATA 250 GB) in RAID 5

Unfortunately, it is giving me some problems right now. I think one of the hard drives failed, and now I appear to be having a problem with the older firmware on the RAID care, but I am still debugging.

You've got the same priorities I do.... spending more on your power supply than your video card.

I think the machine I helped my dad set gentoo up on was a Celeron 1.4ghz or so.. don't really remember.

Although the most powerful machine I've setup gentoo up on for myself was this one -- a Duron 900mhz. Nothing special, but it gets the job done. :)

My current machine is my most powerful Gentoo install:

P4 1.4GHz
512MB RDRAM (not my fault!!!)
250GB Maxtor HD
Cirrus Logic Crystal CS4281 PCI Audio
Maxtor ATA133 IDE Controller (Promise chipset)
Antec Sonata Case
(I'm too lazy to look at my motherboard manual to find the model, but it's an older Asus)

But, the new motherboard and CPUs I just ordered will be uber-sweet:

2xOpteron 242
2x1GB Corsair DDR333
MSI K8T Master-2 FAR (Includes Broadcom gigabit ethernet, SATA RAID, etc)
GeForce FX5200@256MB DDR
SB Live! (Don't trust the compatibility of Audigy just yet)
Antec TruePower 550 EPS12V power supply
Same Antec Sonata case as before
Same 250GB Maxtor HD

I can't wait to put Gentoo on this baby...

And, in the spirit of fast computing, I'm upgrading my everyday Linux system from a PIII 1.1Ghz w/ 512MB, 30GB HDD, and generally stinky specs to (drum roll please):

- AMD Athlon64 3200
- 1GB Corsair 3200 C2 DIMMs (2x512)
- On an MSI K8T Neo FIS2R Mobo with:
- Radeon 9800 AiW (God, I hope I can get it to work)
- 120GB SATA
- 54x32x54 CD-RW/R/ROM
- 16x DVD (whatever the darn format is for a writable DVD...I forget)
- All in a CoolerMaster WaveMaster (The Black One), with an Antec TruePower 550W PS.

I'm waiting on my Federal tax refund so that I can get a kick-a$$ Flat-Panel and some nifty periphs. :D

It's actaully dual, but HT makes the kernel think one processor is two.

Baddest iron with Gentoo....
That has to be my latest P4 with HT and 2 GB of RAM.

The baddest iron I've installed Linux on? IBM z-series.

Can't I consider a 3 node dual PII-300MHz (6 processors total) cluster a single system?

In that case, an Athlon XP 2200+, 512MB, 20GB+80GB+160Gb.
