|
|
In approximately 25 minutes (10:40am central time) a machine I am working on will start its 50th hour of the Bootstrap process. Just wondering if anyone find this normal/out of the ordinary/interesting or perhaps just absolutetly hilarious.
System Specs:
Dual 133 HP Vectra Machine
All scsi (AMD PCScsi controller)
144 megs of ram (8 ram slots, all full)
Just thought someone might be amused by this.
[edit]Something to keep in mind: as far as I'm aware, smp can not be enabled untill after the first bootstrap, so you should keep in mind that currently the machine is only working as a single Pentium 133[/edit]

yo
My server has just finished bootstrapping of gentoo-1.4.
It took approx 24hours. It would have been faster but for the first 4-5 hours I ran some stress scripts (found here)
The machine is: pentium 166MMX, 32MB ram, ATA33 IDE drive (with ide=nodma)
Considering how fast my box managed to get through bootstrapping and comparing your and my specs. I would imagine your server will do it much quicker!
NOTE: the kernel on my server had to kill some processes during compiling glibc-2.2.5:
Code: | Aug 27 16:34:17 cinderella kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 25782 (sshd).
Aug 27 16:34:22 cinderella kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 25786 (bash).
Aug 27 16:48:05 cinderella kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 10832 (ld.so).
Aug 27 16:57:11 cinderella kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 14439 (squid).
Aug 27 18:15:20 cinderella kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 11021 (ld.so).
Aug 27 18:17:48 cinderella kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 11137 (ld.so).
