Modem install of Gentoo.... HELP!!!! Pls :-)

hi i've followed all instructions to get Gentoo up and running using a stage 3 tarbal it works great, i pre downloaded some distfiles (pppd, wvdial, wvstreams)

My problem is i dial-in using Iowatelecom.net and it seems to just dislike me dialling in using wvdial, if i use my winxp to dial-in it work's if i use the redhat setup i was using to dial-in (kppp) it also works, but with the gentoo WVDial setup it just doesn't like my username and password!!!!

WVDial has been setup correctly because it dials my modem and i actually get to iowatelecom.net login prompt but it just doesn't accept my username/password, i'm unsure how to proceed, i've read thru the man pages for wvdial but can't seem to find anthing else useful.

Does anyone know of how to dial in manually just using pppd? or of any extra setup i should make for iowatelecom.net?

any help would be appreciated as i'm actually contemplating downloading all the X11 and gnome packages using my XP and then trying to emerge -k them after. (a daunting task when i can't seem to find all the dependancies for each package!!!)
