|
|
Hi,
I'm installing gentoo on my mother's PC (she wants to try linux) but she switched of the PC after some time when she noticed the screen was blank (the screensaver kinda thingy). The problem is I don't know if it bootstrapped fine and I don't have a lot of time, as she needs the PC for her work overday. Is there anyone who has some way to find out if it bootstrapped alright.
I'm installing from a chrooted shell with the gentoo partition mounted seperately. (I chroot from mandrake).
Thanks in advance.
*edit* in the topic is needs to be if *typo*
ow and I've already succesfully installed gentoo on this box |

Fixed your title, though I'm not sure of an answer to your question. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

If I'm parsing your question correctly, you're wondering how to check to see if the bootstrap portion completed sucessfully (i.e. no errors and your Mom didn't turn it off before it completed).
During part of the bootstrap your /etc/make.conf gets overwritten by the default so bootstrap.sh backs up your /etc/make.conf at the beginning to /etc/make.conf.build and restores it after it's done. If your /etc/make.conf contains all the changes you made to it before the bootstrap, then the bootstrap completed sucessfully. If not, it got stopped somewhere in the middle. There are probably a couple other ways to check, but that's what I'd do. _________________ "An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish.
