Ummm, what kind of weird errors? Details would help anyone interested in helping you. I've had no troubles running VMWare after merging it. You do have a legit license key, don't you?

these errors are before that point, and yes i have a legit license file. I've ran vmware for over quite some time, just never on gentoo.
thanx to anyone who can help. _________________ eXklusve

Installing Gentoo is about the initial installation of Gentoo. Since it sounds like you're past that point, moving this to Desktop Environments.

I had some problems too - then found a note about /tmp being shm-fs, and remembered that biting me back many moons ago. changing TMPDIR to /var/tmp helped me a bunch, but my blow-ups were occurring after pressing the power-on button.
Works perfectly now, using Windows XP guest (yeah, I know - it's for work and their stoopid VPN). I'm even running it on a custom gentoo athlon-mp build. Sweet...

after emerging, vmware says it's not configured properly for my kernel (2.4.19), and to run vmware_configpl (I think, from memory)
I do so, and it seems to all work, but i get errors about modules for the networking or something.
I'll post the exact error when I get to my pc later.
and I have purchased a license, but can't put it in yet |

Heres my error. 1 or 2.
Code: | * Updating /etc/vmware/locations
* Activating vmware init scripts...
* vmware already installed in runlevel default; skipping
* Caching service dependencies...
[ ok ]te error: Broken pipe
* rc-update complete.
*
* You need to run /opt/vmware/bin/vmware-config.pl to complete the install.
*
>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
>>> app-emulation/vmware-workstation-3.1.1.1790 merged.
>>> Recording app-emulation/vmware-workstation in "world" favorites file...
* GNU info directory index is up-to-date.
stellar tmp # |
Then i run the /opt/vmware/bin/vmware-config.pl and get this.
Code: | Trying to find a suitable vmmon module for your running kernel.
None of VMware Workstation's pre-built vmmon modules is suitable for your
running kernel. Do you want this script to try to build the vmmon module for
your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes]
Argument "gcc (GCC) 3" isn't numeric in numeric ge (>=) at /opt/vmware/bin/vmware-config.pl line 1476, <STDIN> line 3.
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
kernel? [/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r7/build/include] |
and when i finish the setup i get this.
Code: | stellar tmp # /opt/vmware/bin/vmware
/opt/vmware/bin/vmware: relocation error: /opt/vmware/bin/vmware: undefined symbol: atexit
