I emerged the portage tree without a problem, but the bootstrap hangs the first time it tries to connect to www.ibiblio.org. I pinged it and it was fine, so no network probs. Did the address change or something ? Searched, couldn't find the answer, please help !

Is it hanging doing rsync or wget? If it's rsync, and wget works fine, then you can follow this thread to automate the process of getting a snapshot of the portage tree from cvs.gentoo.org/snapshots/ (I think that address has changed, but you should get redirected). Are you using a proxy or firewall? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Did you try to "wget http://www.ibiblio.org" to see if downloads its index.html? Might help to check if you are able to download files from ibiblio...
Also ibiblio gets kinda busy sometimes, try to Control-C and try a couple more times in a row if that appears to be the problem...
edit: meant to post b4 rac's brilliant answer ... I type too slow =(... Follow his good advice _________________ Hello. |

Hi all,
Thanks for the quick replies, I'll test your suggestions tonight. I am behind a proxy, but 'emerge rsync' worked without a problem.
It's when i issued...
# cd /usr/portage
# scripts/bootstrap.sh
...it failed. Tonight I'll try wget and hope for a less busy server. Are there any mirrors for ibiblio ? Those on the front page ?
thanks!

Hi,
I tried it again yesterday and it worked without a problem. It must've been a proxy problem : doing emerge system I had the same problem, apparently because gentoo had forgotten my http_proxy settings. Probably because I rebooted and profile.env not being the right place to put them
Anyways, my laptop is happily compiling KDE with gcc3.2 - OTOH, my girlfriend wasn't so happy she couldn't use the internet this morning .
