Sometimes after I had "emerge sync"ed and I wanted to check for the available updates with 'emerge -pvu world' emerge reported:
Code:
[ebuild     U ] net-www/netscape-plugger-5.0 [4.0-r1]  0 kB

As we can double check this output with packages.gentoo.org we see that the latest "stable" version of plugger is the one inside the brackets above. As I already said, this happens not always. Sometimes there is no such output, then again there is this.
I use this mirror "rsync://rsync16.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-merged/". I use this mirror because I need some of the extra vdr packages. So has this something to do with this mirror or might there be other reasons for such a behaviour? You can imagine updating packages with this can be really annoying.

Code:
netscape-plugger-5.0.ebuild:KEYWORDS="~x86 ~ppc ~sparc"

That's the status in CVS which is the authorative location, so either the mirror or your config in /etc/portage (if you have one there) is wrong.

Well, there is no /etc/portage on my system, so the mirror is wrong. Any workaround? Or should I stay as long as I don't merge any extra packages with the standard mirrors.

Actually I just checked that mirror and the ebuild seems to be correct there too.

Do I have to live with this or is there anything I can try to do to fix this?
I don't have manually [un]masked any packages via any configuration file, the only thing I changed is the mirror.

EDIT:
I forgot to mention that there were actually two packages with such a behaviour: the other one:
Code:
[ebuild     UD] media-tv/linuxtv-dvb-1.0.0_pre2-r2 [1.0.1]  3 kB

Here it's the other way round, portage wants to downgrade from a stable release. Happens _sometimes_ too. Sometimes I get both "errors" sometimes one, sometimes none...

And you're sure you use
Code:
rsync://rsync16.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-merged/
as your rsync mirror ? Just asking because I just fetched it myself again and I get the correct KEYWORDS in the ebuild from there :?

So, has anyone any idea? Any suggestions? Is there a way to trace back this problem? Anything I can try?

Do you get the same if you use (albeit temporarily) a different mirror? Don't do an "emerge -uDp world" once you've done it - just make sure that you check the KEYWORDS line in that ebuild. And make sure you check the correct one...

I tried different mirrors and they seem to work. I never do an emerge with '-D'. After I had tried the other mirrors I switched back to the old one and there was it again:
Code:
[ebuild     U ] net-www/netscape-plugger-5.0 [4.0-r1]

The ebuild's KEYWORDS="x86 -ppc ~sparc "

I have got Smoothwall with Squid between my Gentoo and the Internet running..., might my problem occur because of some caching? The actual problem isn't gone, so I grab for anything... :)
