I'm trying to get Gentoo console decorations working but I don't have an init.d script in /etc to start! Which package supplies it because it's not in the splashutils package?
Do I need a soft link to /sbin/fbsplashd, because fbcondecor does not exist anywhere that the howtos claim.
I'm running ~x86_64 with kernel 2.6.23-gentoo-r1 and splashutils-1.5.3
Any help would be appreciated because most of the howtos I've read are leading me round in circles! |

It IS in splashutils. Just follow Spock's instructions and it MAY work. I say may because it seems to have problems setting the screen mode on some hardware at the moment - my laptop is one example where it does not work. _________________ Be lucky,

fbcondecor is located in /etc/init.d/ and in /etc/conf.d
execute the following in a shell:
<b>rc-update add fbcondecor boot</b>
Hope that helps.

You need to enable the fbcondecor use-flag for the latest splashutils to achieve the init-script ...
