Hi,
I want to install gentoo linux on my new harddisk... my question is now should i wait till a new gentoo release is up or should i install the 1.2 version. How long does it take to a new release and which ways are available to update to a new version? |

It depends. You could install it now, and just maintain it with an 'emerge -u world', which will essentially keep you at the lastest version...(actually when you first install it, it will get the most recent versions of everything).
On the other hand, there's word of the new version of GCC coming out in the next release, and there's good reasons to wait for that out as well...
So, I suppose it's a toss up _________________ --brain |

Yes I would install the 1.2 base and emerge -u world to update the packages. The 1.4's main difference is the use of GCC 3.x, and I've heard rumblings of stuff not quite working as desired. |

I'm of the opinion that 1.4_beta is stable enough by now.
The performance increase due to the use of GCC-3.2 is worth giving it a shot. _________________ Hello. |
