The Gentoo kernel guide at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-kernel.xml says gs-sources stands for "Gentoo Stable" and "these sources are perfect for servers and High-Availability systems".
However, the package description for gs-sources says only: "This kernel stays up to date with current kernel -pres, with recent acpi,evms,win4lin ,futexes,aic79xx, superfreeswan, preempt, and various hw fixes."
Am I alone in thinking that "stable" and -pres are liable to be contradictory? If I remember rightly there hasn't been a gs-sources in a while which wasn't a -pre, but presumably the theory says that non-pres are supposed to be release quality?
It's not that I'm having any particular trouble with my gs-sources or anything - except that the preempt option spectacularly didn't work when I tried it several months ago - but I am concerned. Any ideas? |
