I"m a fluxbox user that's using the 0.9.x sequence that uses the commonbox and when I go to upgrade/update my system it continues telling me to switch to 0.1.14 and I'm using 0.9.7-r1 and have gotten confused as to which one I want.
I had accidently installed the 0.1.14 version and since it wouldn't work with my existing menu and settings, I removed it and looked into the portage directory and killed it so I could install my working 0.9 version.

0.1.14 is the latest STABLE release, but 0.9.8 i a development-release. personally i find 0.9.8 to be great and i would recommend it over 0.1.14
Yes you are right that it will try to downgrade your 0.9.8 to 0.1.14 if you do emerge -u world, using emerge -U world instead would fix this.
to emerge the latest fluxbox, do:

I'm doing an emerge -e world and it's upgrading from 0.1.14 to 0.9.7-r1 right now. Suprised me for a change as the system indicates I'm using 0.1.14 right now. So I'm not sure what the hey is going on.
The main question I've got is whether the latest version will work with my existing configuration. I've gone through alot of work getting it setup just the way I want it and I don't want it to change anytime soon. |
