I have:
1.5GHz Intel Centrino
512MB RAM
60gig HDD
Radeon 9000 Mobility 64MB
Integrated Sound (AC97 crap i think)
Synaptic touchpad
Has anyone got 2.6kernel Gentoo running successfully on a similar system. And does anyone have a working Synaptic touchpad in linux ? Thanks. _________________ -madmanuk- |

The 2.6 kernel runs quite nice on Pentium-M processors - even works well for changing the cpufreq for conserving power. I've been running 2.6 for several months now (since the first pre-release was made available) without problems. It's nice.
I've got the Dell 600m, which is similar in specs to what you've got, except that the touchpad is an ALPS/Glidepoint so I can't vouch for the synaptic driver in 2.6. The 600m does have a Radeon 9000, and the kernel's DRM work very nicely (no need for xfree-drm module).
All in all, you should have no problem running 2.6. Have fun! |

Hi,
my Centrino notebook works well with Kernel 2.6.x, but i'm missing acpi battery status (this will be fixed with new Kernel versions, i hope) and no 3D accelaration with my ati 9600 pro/xt But frequency scaling works great for me with speedfreq in dynamic mode.
My Specs:
- Pentium M 1,7
- Ati 9600 pro/xt
- 1 GB Ram
- WSXGA Display (1920x1200)
- .....
Bye,

My Synaptic touchpad works fine with 2.4 and 2.6 kernels. Check this thread for a ton of detail about setting up a similar system (including touchpad, and the Radeon 9000 Mobility 64 MB). |
