Because we can't afford to pay for this crap!

And of course we don't want our fellow Gentooers getting ill, now.

Take care!

Hmm, that would be nice to do if MS gave me any kind of time to leave during lunch but the half hour I get is just barely enough to run downstairs and grab a salad or what ever is "hot" at the lunch stations, run back to my desk, gobble as fast as I can so I can sign back into the phone. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes to get your food if you actually want it prepared for you.

They need to quit killing themselves by eating until they die. That's what they need.

Hey, I'm doing my part. I've gone from 242 down to 229 since the 10th of January using Dr. Atkins' methods. Another 64 pounds do go until I hit my goal weight (165lbs at 5'9").

And if anybody has an objection to Atkins, don't even bother raising it. I know them all already, I know the risks, and I've examined the scientific evidence pro and con. Let me dig my own grave.

Same here. Although I'm tired of the "You're so light you must have an eating disorder!!!" stuff I encountered in highschool (and sometimes in college). :x

atkins > all

Anyway, I never exersize. Never. But I only eat a sandwich or so a day, and sometimes a taco, so I'm far from fat.

I've got a quick solution...if it's caused by volentary obesity (as in, not a disorder of some sort), and they're not trying to help themselves to stop, don't pay for anything they need. Easy as that.

Indeed. All I had to eat today was a two-egg omelet with bacon and cheddar for breakfast, and a couple of grilled chicken cutlets for lunch. I'm not hungry, but I might have a few macadamia nuts just to keep the fires stoked.

Well, I take an hour-long walk whenever I feel restless at night, which is fairly often.

<sarcasm="true">What, and discriminate against the obese? After all, everybody knows it's not a person's fault if he's obese. It's his genes, or his upbringing, or the fault of McDonalds advertising.</sarcasm>

Quite frankly, government shouldn't be paying anybody's medical bills, if it's an individual's responsibility to maintain his health, least of all the medical bills of people who willingly trash their bodies.

Would you be willing to fix a guy's computer for free if he willfully fucked it up by running Windows without an antivirus suite, opened attachments willy-nilly, and had every bit of spyware ever coded on his machine, from Bonzi Buddy on down. I wouldn't.

we obviously should crack down on junk food makers and fast food cartels to make their products safer. then we should tax the hell out of those products that are full of fat. they are selling Death just like the cigarette companies did, and for that they need to pay.

Why? Nobody's holding a sword to your throat and forcing you to eat Twinkies and Big Macs and bag after bag of Doritos. Why is it necessary to depend on the government to solve every little fucking problem in this God-haunted country?!

People who say "there ought to be a law" should be stripped of their citizenship and deported to Antarctica. They're the kind of people who ruin perfectly good republics over time.

Dr. Robert C. Atkins' methods involve a diet that's high in protein with moderate amounts of fat, vitamin supplementation, and minimal carbohydrate intake. Greens are OK in limited quantities, but fruit is verboten until one nears one's goal weight and learns to maintain a balanced diet. Look into low-carbohydrate dieting, you might be surprised.

I guess I should have put "for free" italics. Saving a guy from his own foolishness in exchange for hard cash is another proposition altogether, is it not?

I never was interested in diets/concepts. If you think you're too fat just eat less. Believe me, it just works...

uh, because it's costing the American taxpayers $39 billion a year. I'm not wanting the prohibition of Big Macs by any means, but regulation of such. A Sin Tax has been proven useful to curb the consumption of tabacco, and reduce it's load to medicare/medicaid; we probably should do the same to one of the major causes of the number one killer in this country.

That's not good enough. Instead of imposing yet another disciminatory tax, why not eliminate your reason for proposing such taxes in the first place, and put even more money where it belongs: back in the pockets of the citizens? Get the government out of medicine, let the physicians take back their profession, and put an end to Medicare/Medicaid. If you're so concerned with the cost to taxpayers, then strike at the root of that cost instead of adding to it.
