Hallo!
i have an Ulta5 @ 270mhz with 128mb ram.
On the onboard ide controller i have plugged:
1 master: an 850mb disk drive (just boot partition)
1 slave: an 40gb UDMA5 drive containing the root and more
2 master: another 40gb UDMA5 driver with more data.
2 slave: unused

Well, i can only enabled dma up to MDMA mode 2 and not UDMA, what is your mileage? has anybody been able to to UDMA on the ultra5 ide controller?

I am interested, because with mdma2 the drives cannot even fullfill the 12mb/sec transfer rate i can get trough NFS... and that ultra5 is my actual file server!

note: the disks (the two 40gb) had been positively tested in UDMA5 and can do 35mb/sec.

I am waiting for your mileage...

bye!

The CMD IDE controller on the Ultra5/10 is limited to 16.7MB/s maximum. You cant change that. If you want faster disk I/O, put a SCSI controller in your Ultra and get SCSI disks. Look here for some compatible controllers: http://dev.gentoo.org/~bazik/hw.php
