Hi,
I'm running vmware version 3.1. Host is gentoo 1.2 and guest OS is windows xp pro. The problem i need help with is regarding sound. Sound works perfectly in the linux host and it works perfectly in the guest OS also. the problem is whenenver i boot up windows xp as the guest OS and then shut it down or reboot it....it mutes the sound of my gentoo host. So i'd have to go "amixer set Master 100 unmute" to get the host sound working again. And even though the host sound is muted, the guest OS sound works fine. I even tried the suggestion here: http://www.vmware.com/support/ws3/ts/ws31ts_soundvid2.html#1013260
to no avail.

anyone had this problem before or got any ideas??

Thanks.

Windows XP is changing the mixer settings (volume) during shutdown. It mutes it during shutdown to (hopefully) prevent any noise the sound card would make when it loses power. (Sounds silly, but it works on some cards, which is my M$ does it.)

No, I'm saying the workaround is in that KB article. Check that you edited the right files, and if it still breaks, contact VMware support. They're nice people.
