I have just finished going though a good deal of trial and error to get gentoo in somewhat, i now have it in so far as i can boot up with grub but when it gets to fstab is just dies out saying 'mount: command not found' and dumps me to a bash prompt. Im thinking this is due to when i tryed to emerge system, i did the --pretend and it came up as:
"These are the packages that I would merge, in order.
Calculating system dependencies ...done!"
Then for the accauly emerge system it didnt accauly install/download anything. I have no idea why, im useing the ~15mb iso of gentoo 1.1a and its inherent stage install. I also don't have other programs .. like passwd .. heh. Any ideas as to what i can do about this? Thank you..

you obviously havne't got the system installed properly.. I'd suggest you download the i686 iso and install that if you can.
otherwise check internet connectivity and see if it can get outside your lan |
