Is there a way to pause during a compile? Usually I start at night before I go to bed, but sometimes, I want to check the weather in the morning before work or whatnot. Maybe you can just lower the priority a whole lot? If a GUI were created for emerge, this would be a very cool feature, just being able to hit a pause button. _________________ Those are my two cents |

control-z
This pauses any process that's running in the foreground (not just emerge- can use it with anything) and should spit out a job number. To resume it, type "fg <job number>".
I ususally start emerge with "nice emerge foo bar foobar" anyway, so it doesn't really make any difference to me.
And if you have a low-latency/pre-emptible kernel, running emerge at a normal priority shouldn't cause other processes to stutter. |

Thanks! I forgot about nice, btw. I was wonering if ctr-z somehow hurt the compile process, but apparently not. _________________ Those are my two cents |
