hi,
i have been struggling with this problem for a little while now ..
i have a builtin wlan card on my laptop,
Code:
ilubmom root # lspci | grep -i prism
02:02.0 Network controller: Harris Semiconductor Prism 2.5 Wavelan chipset (rev 01)

now i have it in my computer as eth1, the eth0 is my ethenet card.
it works just fine if configured to the network it should be on. i use the modules that are in the kernel(2.4.22) btw.
BUT, if i start airsnort, and choose the prism2.5 in the card type. i get :
Code:
wlanctl-ng: Operation not supported
wlanctl-ng: Operation not supported
wlanctl-ng: Operation not supported

but if i choose "Other" in the card type, it "works", but it doesn't capture anything unless i configure my wlan card. and start something .. like some traffic...
and i really don't see where i can configure anything as teh gui is REALLY useless
the loaded modules for wifi are :
Code:
orinoco_pci             3396   1
orinoco                37076   0  [orinoco_pci]
hermes                  5988   0  [orinoco_pci orinoco]

ok, now i have installed kismet, and i have "configured" it, but when i try to start it i get the folowing":
in case the used card in the /etc/kismet/kismet.conf is
"source=prism2,eth1,prism2source"

I don't know your card, but I'd think that a Prism 2.5 based card would work better with the wlan-ng driver (net-wireless/linux-wlan-ng).

Actualy since your using the orinoco driver, just keep using it, and select orinoco in airsnort and kismet. Thas what I do.

The orinoco drivers need to be patched first, otherwise the card cannot set into monitor mode.
