|
|
Hi,
I have an Epson L3251 printer that I am trying to install on my box using the DNSSD protocol (driverless driver).
Unfortunetely, everytime I try to add the printer, I have the following message:
Quote: | cups-driverd failed to get PPD file - see error_log for details. |
I would like to add that I already installed this printer with the same protocol and driver on another box, and it works...
You can see in the log my attempts with the DNSSD driver at 08:27:45 but I do not see anything that would cause the problem.
I tried also using the IPP protocol with the everywhere driver, and in that case, the printer is added, but I have the following message when I try to print the test page:
Quote: | processing since
Sun Feb 25 08:42:00 2024
"Unable to locate printer "EPSON4119D4.local"." |
Using the IPP protocol with the driveless driver gets me back to the first message.
Here is my cups instalkation status:
Quote: | emerge cups cups-meta epson-inkjet-printer-escpr -p
[ebuild R ] net-print/cups-2.4.7-r2::gentoo USE="X acl dbus kerberos openssl pam systemd usb zeroconf -debug (-selinux) -static-libs -test -xinetd" ABI_X86="32 (64) (-x32)" 0 KiB

[ebuild R ] net-print/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.8.4::gentoo 0 KiB
Total: 3 packages (3 reinstalls), Size of downloads: 0 KiB |
Here is my CUPS error log: https://paste.quest/?671cee6e8cd01f65#8hXmk2CT3sgkuzGa5Q48eo2s2neFoUiCU6KRPd3mWSyn
Any help would be much apriciated,
Thanks |

Is the `cups-filters` package installed? If not, does installing it solve the issue? (`cups-filters` provides the file `/usr/libexec/cups/driver/driverless`). |

Seems to have been a dep on cups-filters that went away recently, I was wondering why I could depclean it recently just to find out that I still needed it... _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

Indeed: "CUPS no longer directly depends on its filters"
But in the OP's case, they've emerge'd `cups-meta`, which, according to the News item, means `cups-filters` should still be installed, so i'm interested to know whether it actually is or not (hence my question above). |

Yes, it is installed:
Code: | emerge cups-filters -p
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 2.78 s (backtrack: 0/20).

Oh indeed, sorry for not being clearer: i was (a) trying to point to the specific News item, for other people in the discussion, and (b) wondering if there was some issue with `cups-meta` that meant `cups-filters` wasn't getting installed. i often find non-threaded discussions challenging, as i keep forgetting that quoting someone is usually taken as implying a direct response to that person, rather than merely 'citing' them .... i'll try to be more mindful. |
