Hi,

I am currently using openbox and want to try something new so I am looking for a stacking window manager
(no tiling wm, please), which
- is completely usable with the keyboard, but knows how to handle mouse events
- is flexible to configure
- its configuration file format is not a mess
- is good documented especially when it comes to its configuration
- supports multiple desktops (no grouping like cwm)
- it is actively developed
- does not depend hardcoded on the existence of a Windows (TM) key - I am using an IBM model M keyboard

I tried so far:
2bwm - which does not run at all
cwm - which has some background redrawing issues
FWM3 - the configuration format is not my cup of tea
I tried some tiling window managers and came to the conclusion that it is not the right concept for me.

As long as the compilation is not THAT hard the windows manager does not need to be available in the repo.

I am happy about any suggestion.... :)

Cheers!
:)

Hi,

ah...ok! :) You are right...I forgot vital information to add.

I am on X11 and X11 only running on a RTX 2060 Super installed on a RYZEN 5 3600 CPU together with 32 GB of RAM.

One thing to add to my list of preferences:
- I don't prefer/like window managers with a lot of graphic features like terminal transparency, animated icons (or icons on desktop at all)
and such.

Just before I tried IceWM. It has a oldschool-ish look and is not fully keyboard driven...so...no thanks. Not my cup of tea (which is NOT
against IceWM as such...:) )

Cheers!
:)

Hello, I'm little curious about WM, so I try to look at my terminal for some wm available,
emerge --search x11-wm/
print out over 50 packages! 8O is too much I belive lol.

So I'm not put great suggestion, but for every wm in gentoo repo you see own website in description and you can get a look over all.
