PostPosted: Tue Feb 13, 2024 9:25 pm    Post subject: [solved] vlc: update skipped due to unsatisfied dependencies Reply with quote

When I do an update, I each time get a message that a vlc update is being skipped due to unsatisfied dependencies triggered by backtracking:
Code:
# emerge -DUvu @world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 41.48 s (backtrack: 4/20).

Total: 0 packages, Size of downloads: 0 KiB

!!! The following update(s) have been skipped due to unsatisfied dependencies
!!! triggered by backtracking:

media-video/vlc:0

Nothing to merge; quitting.

Normally, there is information included about what dependencies are unsatisfied, but not here. I would like help finding out what is the matter here.

I think that vlc itself does not need to be updated, or it might be due to some use flag change:
Code:
# eix media-video/vlc:0
[I] media-video/vlc

Hm, shows
Code:
emerge -pve @world --backtrack=0
a more helpful output?

Could it be ffmpeg issue ? ( vlc is not yet supporting ffmpeg-6)

You are both right!

So is this an issue where we just need to wait for vlc to get up to date for ffmpeg or is there something that can be done to fix? Thanks.

I'm sure after reading around the forums I just ended up putting

Code:
media-video/vlc -vaapi

in package.use and it stopped that message coming up, haven't noticed any problems with it so far.

This is indeed also what I did. I don't use vlc enough for GPU acceleration to be really required.
