Does anyone have a Pi 5 Gentoo install running Xfce yet? Is everything working as expected?
I am having issues with this combination at the moment. I get Xfce, but all is not as it should be. I'm in no hurry, just wondering if someone has it working, so I know it can be done. It will be a few weeks before I again have the spare time to work on this.
Thanks. |

flysideways,
Ewww...
Very slow to start,
No mouse cursor until you run an application. I tried with firefox
Title bars are there but its not possible to move windows
Right clicking on a title bar brings up a menu but you can't use it.
Not using my keymap, so typing is difficult going on impossible. Unlocking the screen ....
Mate just works.
-- edit --
After a bit of poking about, it appears that Xfrc4 is not using the v3d hardware acceleration.
Videos will not scale to full screen but its OK in Mate.
Its odd, as the underlying Xorg setup is the same for both. _________________ Regards,

flysideways,
Yep, Mate on Pi5 works for me.
Its a Gnome2 fork. I switched early is Gnome3, as I didn't like Gnome3 much. _________________ Regards,

For me, xfce4 is working fine, with composite disabled.
h264 video HD scales fine at 4k resolution, including full screen. Without dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d-pi5, only 1920x1080 resolution is available.

I ended up getting a Pimoroni NVMe Base and am using it with Gnome. The Pi 5 is running Gnome just fine on two 2560x1440 monitors, about a 1.4 load average or less during my normal browsing. It is a great improvement from the Pi 4 which struggled with Gnome. |
